A recent study on the PEERS program at UCLA confirmed that this young adult/adult social skills program is providing lasting benefits to those who complete it! The PEERS program, Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills, is a 16-week long program designed to help teenagers and young adults increase their social skills. Each week consisted of a 90-minute session focusing on different tasks across the social communication board, such as exiting and entering conversations, peer conflict, and dating etiquette, with subsequent sessions for caregivers. Dr. Laugeson, the founder and director or PEERS, said “through an evidence-based, caregiver-supported intervention, adults with autism can improve in ways that may help them be more successful in these aspects of their lives.” Click here to see a video about the program and here to read more.
