Same but Different, a U.K non-profit organization has dedicated its efforts to raising awareness and acceptance for those with rare disorders such as Fragile-x syndrome.
Under normal circumstances they host wonderful events that bring people together to share laughs and hope, but due to the circumstances brought on by the ongoing pandemic, they have been forced to adapt along with the rest of us. This year they have decided to host a virtual gathering by way of a photo contest. This contest is open to all and invites originality and differences with open arms. With the theme being “A Glimmer of Hope,” the competition is a means to “visually express the hope that exists for people affected by rare disease,” the organization states on the competition’s website. As we share these pictures and come together as a community it is important to remind ourselves of the hope. Hope that we extended an open heart and mind. Hope that we come together as one. But above all, hope that we learn to accept being the same yet different.
