Individuals with developmental disabilities in the state of Illinois are currently faced with large wait lists and little finical aid as they seek services. In an attempt to address this issue, the state government has set benchmarks of improvement by the year 2025 and a sense of hope is growing. Allison Stark, the director of the Human Services Department’s division of developmental disabilities stated that Illinois is “investing more than [they] probably have in the past, and there has been a renewed commitment to trying to address the wait list.” This is leaving parents cautiously optimistic as we wait to see which improvements and additional resources are made available.
