After watching the television series ‘Shark Tank’, Heidi Stieglitz Ham, the director the Spectrum Fusion organization, decided to launch a program modeled after the show for adults on the autism spectrum. This program, Reactor Room, gives adults on the spectrum a chance to present their strengths and express their career dreams/goals to business associates, entrepreneurs and social innovators, to help the participant find not just a job but a meaningful career. Reactor Room’s first participant, Will Purdy, has found professional success through a writing position at his local newspaper, the Houston SEO411. Here at the NDL, we share Dr. Ham’s goal of helping adults on the autism spectrum tap into their strengths and enter the work force. Each quarter, we work closely with Project SEARCH Collaborates for Autism to provide internships in the NDL for young adults on the autism spectrum.
